Initiatives
Early Childhood
Development
This initiative supports the efforts of our Community
Partner child care centers to provide quality care to infants through
school-age children with measurable outcomes, such as reading and math
proficiency and kindergarten readiness.
Women’s Initiative
This initiative is new to Heart of Missouri United Way and
is designed to supply every child born in ColumbiaBooneCounty
and our seven county service area.
free hard-back children’s books monthly from birth to age 5. This is a collaboration
with the national Dolly Parton Imagination Library, local hospitals, Parents as
Teachers and the Daniel Boone Regional Library. In future years, the Women’s
Initiative hopes to expand to serve children throughout Boone County and our seven county service area.
2-1-1 Helpline
Heart of Missouri
United Way joined a statewide effort last year to
include our seven county service area in the 2-1-1 network. This is a 24 hour,
7 day per week information and referral helpline that includes access to social
services, government services, and all types of human services. 2-1-1 is also
the number to call in case of a disaster, either to volunteer or to receive
services.
For those calling from a cell phone, the number is
800.427.4626. Multilingual staff members are available to help locate services
in any of our counties and around the State of Missouri.
